Mission:
To produce bold, innovative and dynamic works of theatre featuring a highly skilled company of actors, aged 9-15, in a trusting ensemble setting. To engage the imagination and ignite a lifelong passion for the arts by developing a thriving company of young artists. We provide opportunities for young people to work alongside professional artists and designers who collectively strive to captivate the community with high-quality performance works. We believe it takes a village to produce an impact and that creative inspiration is contagious. In today’s day and age, we feel it’s our duty as artists to nurture the next generation of culturally sensitive and empowered young people who grasp the power of live performance.

History: Junior Acting Troupe (JAT) is an audition-based all-youth theatre company in San Francisco, California. JAT was co-founded in 2011 by Producing Artistic Director Clove Galilee and Teaching Artist Evan Johnson at Harvey Milk Center for the Arts in the Duboce Park neighborhood. JAT was developed under the auspices of San Francisco Recreation and Parks Cultural Arts Division. Teaching Artist Suzanne Halka joined JAT in 2012. JAT productions are rehearsed bi-weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. All rehearsals and productions are led collaboratively by Evan Johnson and Suzanne Halka with additional support from Clove Galilee, Guest Teaching Artists and JAT Parent Volunteers. JAT Performances have been held at Mission Arts Center, Upper Noe Valley Recreation Center and Moscone Recreation Center. Past performances include: Phantom Tollbooth, Hush: An Interview with America, Next Victim, Please and JAT’s latest production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
